HOME - YMCA WORLD COUNCIL 2022

YMCA’s World Council is the highest governing body of the global YMCA Movement, and also its most important shared space. Across continents and across generations, YMCA comes together: it shares, it plans, it learns, it is inspired. It charts the way forwards towards becoming the world’s partner of choice as a youth empowerment organisation.

The 20th World Council takes place from Sunday 3rd to Saturday 9th July 2022. For the first time, it will be a hybrid event - with participation in-person in Aarhus, Denmark, and online. Our world and our YMCA has been turned on its head by the Coronavirus pandemic, and we need to reconnect, respond to new learning, new imperatives, new roles and new methods in supporting young people and their communities.

Which is why the World Council theme in 2022 is “IGNITE”.

Join us to provide the spark, the flame, to Ignite and take the Movement forward, to create a better world.

Aarhus, the second city of Denmark, is a green and beautiful place. It’s an old city with a young population, a port city with a view on the world, and a city built on sustainability.

With amazing acoustics and beautiful architecture, our World Council venue - the Music House - is one of Denmark's most popular cultural centers, and the largest concert hall in Scandinavia.

Aarhus is itself a model of sustainability. The city is 22nd on the Global Destinations Sustainability Index, and plans to be Carbon-neutral by 2030.

For the first time, a hybrid event - which is both in-person and online - will give unprecedented access to World Council. This presents a new and unique opportunity to engage young people - everywhere.

You can join us from all over the world for a specially designed online programme which will be available in real-time. As well as live-streamed ceremonies and plenaries from the physical event in Aarhus, the virtual event will offer exclusive online-only content, as well as collaborative sessions and workshops, and interactive networking opportunities.

YMCA-YWCA Denmark is a joint Christian movement for youth empowerment, with more than 9,000 members.

Its core activities target children and young people under 30. It has 100 local associations spread across the country.

YMCA-YWCA Denmark is a member of the World Alliance of YMCAs and World YWCA. It is also a member of YMCA Europe and YWCA Europe.
