EXCURSIONS
All excursions will take place on Monday 4 July. They will all be linked to one of the four Vision 2030 themes:
- Social - Community wellbeing
- Economic - Meaningful work
- Environmental - Sustainable planet
- Political - Just world
Every trip will bring you closer to the work of the YMCA and the YWCA of Denmark. You are invited to choose your top three preferences, and we will allocate you a place according to availability.
And for our online participants, there will be virtual tours and interactions with the local Danish YMCA-YWCA which you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.
All registrants were sent a separate and personalized message via the Event platform, inviting them to use their individual Confirmation Number (supplied in the email) to select their Excursion by adding to their existing registration details.
The deadline for registering for the Excursions was 25 May (extended from 20 May).

Vildbjerg and Aulum, Jutland
Giving socially vulnerable people new hope in life
On this excursion you will explore how men on the edge of society can find a home and a meaningful way of spending their daily life. You will also visit one of the biggest YMCAs in Denmark.
The excursion is for you, if you want to get inspiration and concrete ideas on how to work with social problems.

Møltrup Optagelseshjem https://www.moltrup.dk/
Møltrup is an old manor, which is now used as a home for homeless men who want to live without alcohol and drugs and who want to participate in the working community. There are several workshops, among others a farm, slaughterhouse, sawmill, kitchen and café.
We will also eat lunch here. The food is produced locally at Møltrup.

If you want to feel the spirit of the Danish YMCA and YWCA, you should visit us in Aulum - a village with around 4,000 inhabitants but one of the largest YMCA and YWCA groups in Denmark with around 300 members. We will show you how we make activities for children and teenagers - sometimes very silly activities! We have club activities from the age of 0 to 99 - so we also have activities for adults.

Billund and Give, Jutland
Improved mental health through play and sports. Bring your inner child on this trip.
On this excursion you will explore the world-famous LEGO House. ‘LEGO® House, "Home of the Brick", is the ultimate experience centre in Billund - the hometown of the LEGO brick. 12,000 m2 large and filled with 25 million LEGO bricks, LEGO waterfalls and giant animals and plants. The house offers experiences for children (and adults) of all ages, who want to develop creatively and explore the endless possibilities for Learning through Play through the LEGO brick.
After lunch at the local YMCA and YWCA in Give, you will visit the headquarters of YMCA Sports in Denmark, where the general secretary will show you around and share the ideas and values of the organisation with you. You will be acquainted with the phenomenon ‘Danish association life’, visit a sports hall and learn more about the connection between mental health and physical literacy.
The excursion is for you, if you want to experience the birthplace of LEGO and get inspired by the Danish YMCA Sports’ understanding of the connection between mental health and physical literacy.

Haderslev, Jutland
If you want to swim, bring your bathing suit!
On this excursion, you will explore how the YMCA can make new activities for children. We will also learn about how the German minority and the Danish majority in the area work together.
The excursion is for you if you want to get inspiration and concrete ideas on how to work with children in new and alternative ways.

Information about the cooperation between congregations from the Danish folk church and from the German minority in South Jutland.

The local YMCA and YWCA have recently established a ‘Folk Highschool’ for children in their building in the centre of Haderslev. We will see the building and hear about the thoughts and ideas behind the Folk Highschool.

We will experience a YMCA summer camp, which is for boys only. We will share some activities with the boys, and it will be possible to swim in the sea.

Lemvig
There will be a walking distance of 1-2 km
The excursion is for you if you want to experience alternative ways of YMCA activities for children, and how you can attract people outside the YMCA to be volunteers.
You will also experience an independent residential school (‘efterskole’) connected to the YMCA, and you will learn about climate adaptation projects in an area close to the sea.

The House of Auntie Andante (Lemvig KFUM og KFUK)

Experience the crazy universe of Auntie Andante full of songs, plays and stories. The stories can be from the Bible as well as from children's literature. The aunt “lives” in the house of Lemvig YMCA and YWCA, and it is open during the school vacations. The target group is children between 1 - 10 years old and their parents or grandparents. A lot of volunteers help run the house, and many of these have no background in the YMCA. Besides the activities in the house, Auntie Andante is also travelling around Denmark to make events for kindergartens, schools, churches etc.

Climatorium is Denmark's international climate centre.
It is a Forum for Climate Adaptation Projects and Climate mitigation. The mission is to develop and disseminate new solutions to challenges within the areas: Coastal Climate Challenges, Green Energy, Circular Economy, Water and Environment - through collaboration.
Lunch will be served by YMCA and YWCA from Nr. Nissum - a small town outside Lemvig, which is an educational centre of the area. One of the schools is Nr. Nissum Efterskole, which will be the last visit of the day.

The ‘Efterskole’ is a unique Danish independent residential school for teenagers. In Denmark, we have 240 schools throughout the country.
Nørre Nissum Efterskole is placed in the Western part of Denmark and would like to share with you how they educate and empower youth to take an active part in the world around us.
On our way back to Aarhus we will watch the beautiful view over the Limfjord.

On this excursion you will explore a school with teaching and learning in the forest, in the classroom and on the stairs. The Efterskole is a unique Danish independent residential school for students aged 14 to 18. In Denmark we have 240 schools like this throughout the country. The Efterskole you will visit on this trip lies in a very beautiful nature and is at school for students with dyslexia.
The excursion is for you, if you want to experience another way of ‘doing’ school. It is also for you, if you want to get inspiration and get concrete ideas on how to help people with dyslexia. There is a lot of technology that can help people with dyslexia - often very close to you.

At Lystruphave Efterskole you will explore:
- Talk about ‘what is Efterskole’
- Tour at the school seeing: classrooms, sleeping room and outdoor facilities guided by former students
- Choose between different activities. We hope to offer:

- Learn more about IT aids for dyslexia
- Some different sports activities outside and inside

- Lunch in dining hall
- Former students talk about some of the subjects that are special for this school
In Aarhus you will explore:
You will visit the house Haldor, which is run by Kirkens Korshær. They focus on young people who are vulnerable, and families with small children. They focus on preventive activities that help the groups to redirect and get to a sustainable place in their life. The projects are designed so that participants experience to be able to positively contribute to their own society.

Viborg
Viborg historical city and a social place for soldiers. On this trip you will walk more than 2 kilometres.
On this excursion, you will explore the old city of Viborg through a guided tour and a visit to a soldiers’ institute. Lunch will be served at Viborg YMCA.
The excursion is for you if you are interested in old history, the Reformation and visiting the Cathedral of Viborg.
It is also for you if you want to hear more about how a local Danish YMCA works. We will visit a local YMCA to hear more about their activities for children and youth. After lunch, we will visit a YMCA soldiers’ institute which is a place that offers various activities to soldiers in their leisure time.

The local YMCA and YWCA in Viborg will serve lunch and tell us about their activities in the community.
KFUM’s soldaterhjem in Karup (YMCA soldier’s institute)
This is a place for soldiers to meet in the afternoon and evening hours where the soldiers can take part in different social activities or have time to take a break.

Kolding
A place to belong.
On this trip you will walk 1-2 kilometres
On this excursion you will explore two different youth programmes. There will be spaces where children and youth have the feeling of belonging and being a part of a community. It will be a visit to two different organisations, with different approaches to youth work.
The excursion is for you, if you want to get inspiration with concrete ideas on how to work with children and youth in your YMCA.

Special Minds
A place where they create individual engineering courses for young people and adults with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and other similar profiles to create a better access for education and jobs.
KFUM og KFUK in Kolding
The local YMCA in Kolding will serve lunch and tell us about their activities in the community.
Among other things you will hear about the Danish concept ‘Børnehøjskole’ and the different programmes which they have for children in Kolding.
Børnekontakten
In ‘Børnekontakten’ there are daily activities and holiday activities for children aged 6-13. They come from at least 10 different nationalities. The children live in housing blocks around Børnekontakten and the space is open for all types of children.
We will visit the space and experience how it creates meaningful activities like a world map, table football matches, basketball games etc.

Gellerup, Aarhus
Improving employment among youth in a ghetto.
On this tour, you will take part in a guided walking tour of 2-3 kilometres.
On this excursion you will explore how local actors work towards employment for young people in Gellerup - an area in Aarhus with a high concentration of people with unemployment, low educational level and with a minority background.
The excursion is for you if you want to get inspiration and concrete ideas on how to work with job creation for young people in a challenged area.

A local guide will show us around the area and tell us about both physical and social initiatives in the neighbourhood that serves the local community.
The Green Academy
We will visit The Green Academy, which is a program for highly educated unemployed people. The program gives the people skills within climate action in order for them to embed sustainability in their professional skillset and also creates new opportunities for employment with the companies involved in the program.

The local YMCA in Gellerup will serve lunch and tell us about their activities in the community.
Yggdrasil
Yggdrasil is a social house with lots of initiatives that empower young people. They have a focus on young people with minority backgrounds and how to increase employment in this group. You will hear about their work and explore some concrete activities.

Aarhus City
What it takes to perform a job
On this excursion you will explore some of the different companies and organisations, that are trying to make the Danish labour market open and flexible for people with all kinds of different mindsets.
This excursion is for you, if you want to get inspired to make your local community as open for new types of jobs as possible. And to see options not obstacles, when you are trying to create new jobs for your city.
Look forward to: conversations, co-thinking and new kinds of activities.
Special minds:
Is a Danish company that works with a vision of making the Danish Labour market as open and sustainable as possible. They have a special focus on young people with autism. Special minds are focusing on lots of space and options for creativity so that young people can flourish and live up to their full potential.
Folkestedet:
It is a social café in the heart of Aarhus. It is managed with a few employees and a lot of volunteers. It helps people with job clarification. For some of the volunteers it works as a stepping stone into a more permanent job.
Huset Venture: (pending):
‘Huset Venture’ creates jobs for people with reduced working capacity. They run businesses, develop people and break down barriers. They focus on social sustainability and sustainable economy.

Ølgod and Blaakilde Efterskole, Jutland
From Farm to Fork.
Bring clothes for outdoor activities.
On this excursion you will explore how farming can be done with an extended view on the environment and climate change. You will also be a part of the programme at the YMCA Sports Seminar.
The excursion is for you, if you would like to explore an organic farm with cropping, milk, animals and vegetables. The last few years we have been considering how organic farming, as an important food producer, can be an important player to reduce the pollution on both the environment and climate.
There will be a guided tour on the farm, and you`ll also be a part of the cooking team, who will prepare a wonderful organic lunch with the use of local products. We´ll enjoy the food together before you leave the farm.

Randers and Hobro
You need decent footwear, as we’ll have a walk around Fussingø.
On this excursion you will take a guided tour around parts of a 1200-acre nature park. We will hear about the history of the area, and about some of the efforts made to secure strong biodiversity.
You will also visit a recycling site and be inspired by their approach to recycling and reutilisation.
The excursion is for you, if you need inspiration on how you can explore/create more nature in your local area. We’ll talk about how the nature park has been made possible and there will be a possibility to ask questions to professionals.

The park is one of two Danish nature parks. Fussingø intends to contribute to stronger biodiversity, while also offering an exciting nature experience, a space for peace, silence and simply nature!

Here we’ll eat our lunch.
The recycling site and secondhand shop ‘Resursen’ in Hobro
‘Resursen’ is a recycling fraction at Hobro Recycling Site, whose main purpose is to keep as many of the items handed in as possible, at the top of the waste hierarchy. We do this through sales, inspiration and knowledge sharing about recycling and reutilisation. Part of the visit will also be to see our recycling site and hear about how we ensure climate-friendly solutions for our fractions.

Aarhus
Climate in and outside Aarhus.
Decent footwear will be a necessity for the walk at Mols Bjerge. There will also be a walk between 2-3 kilometres inside Aarhus, so you have to be prepared for that.
On this excursion you will explore Aarhus city and some of the actions that Aarhus has taken to become an even greener city in Denmark.
The excursion is for you, if you’re ready for a trip both inside the city in Downtown Aarhus, and also for a walk in the beautiful national park, Mols Bjerge.

In the morning we will start by visiting different locations in Aarhus.
Domen:
It is a beautiful place in the middle of Aarhus harbour. Domen is a half-circle building, which works as a meeting point for people in Aarhus. Domen presents art sculptures made from plastic in the oceans, small garden locations and serves great coffee. Domen is based on values such as sustainability and fellowship.
Wefood Aarhus:
Is a small supermarket in Aarhus, which is working to stop food waste. Wefood gets its products from other supermarkets when the products are close to the expiration date. Wefood lowers then lowers the price, to put focus on the amount of fine food products we are throwing away. Young people especially are taking advantage of this option.
Lunch will be served at the local YMCA and YWCA, where there will be volunteers serving the lunch.
National Park - Mols bjerge:
In the afternoon we will take a small walk in some beautiful nature just outside Aarhus. You will hear a bit about the Danish landscape and how the Danes use our national parks.

Sustainable production of food and energy
On this excursion you will explore different approaches to climate change.
The excursion is for you, if you want to get inspired by the new possibilities for the production of food and renewable energy.

Organic dairy farm “Hagens Mølle”
We will visit a dairy farm, which has been managed by organic principles. We will taste some of the products from the organic dairy where the farm’s milk is delivered.

A company developing technologies to convert electricity from wind turbines to hydrogen, which can be used for creating fuel for cars, ships etc.

The church was totally rebuilt a few years ago. The local priest will show us the church and there will be a short devotion.
Lunch will be served by the local Y’s Men’s Club in the new YMCA building, which is next to the church.

On this excursion you will explore the inside of a modern culture house, with a vision of creating communities that challenge and strengthen the curiosity of its different users.
The excursion is for you, if you would like inspiration on how to creatively set up events. Want to take a step into a workspace? Here you will explore the mechanics, as you create your own event, for the crowd coming to your own cultural meeting point.

The local YMCA i Horsens will serve lunch and tell us about their activities.
UngrAadet Horsens
The municipality in Horsens won the award for this year's ‘municipality of youth’ for creating good opportunities for youth and being good at including youth in decision making in the municipality. We will talk to some of the key young people behind different youth driven initiatives in Horsens.

Aarhus
What commitment means for a city's local community.
On this Excursion there will be some walking between the different locations, about 2-3 kilometres.
On this excursion you will explore some very different local projects started in AAarhus, in favour of the citizens.
This excursion is for you, if you are interested in local projects, and how to spot what could be needed at your local YMCA. It is for you who might be interested in activism or new corporations to make a project begin.

Re’den (the Nest) Aarhus:
Reden in Aarhus, is a project started to make a safe space for young women in Denmark. It’s working to make a secure ground for those where this was not an option. Today Reden is located in three of the biggest cities in Denmark. Reden is a part of YMCA’s social work In Denmark.
Aarhus Børnehøjskole:
This is where we will be enjoying our lunch on this tour. Børnehøjskolen is located in the middle of Aarhus, and is working with the slogan “To make the world bigger, for the smallest''. It is a house where volunteers can come up with a good idea and make after school programs for kids. The difference between this and a normal after school program, is that here we always begin with a song and devotion. But also that the children get to enjoy dinner with the volunteers.
Sager der samler:
Is a self organised initiative from the citizens of Aarhus. Here they are working for a more democratic society, where the citizens get a voice and an opportunity to join activism.
They are working out of three dogmas:
- To start in our own life situation.
- To do something with (not for) others.
- Start there where you don't have to ask for permission or money.

Aalborg. A city in Jutland
YMCA in a “pocket-size” city.
On this excursion you will explore how a YMCA building can be used as a modern culture house
The excursion is for you, if you want to see another Danish city and how the YMCA is working here.
Look forward to:
A visit to the capital of North Jutland, Aalborg. You will get a tour around to experience a pocket-size city and get a feeling of the transformation from an industrial centre to a city now characterised by culture and study. The trip will end with a visit to Aalborg YMCA & YWCA, which is placed right in the city centre. Here you will experience some of the programmes. The YMCA runs a board game café that focus on inviting international people to give them a place to belong. They also have programs including volleyball, escape room and choir.

Randers
A professional football club’s local responsibilities.
On this excursion you will explore how a professional football club makes a difference in their local society. You will get a stadium tour and a talk with the key persons behind the CSR projects of Randers FC. In the second part of the excursion, you will visit a social space for children that is run by the local YMCA and YWCA.
The excursion is for you, if you want to have a look into how corporate social responsibility works in a professional football club. You, who want specific inspiration on how to manage projects to support different parts of your local community.

A visit to the Danish football club, who finished one of their finest years in 2021 by winning the Danish Cup title and proceeding from the group stage in the Conference League. Experience how the club takes a social responsibility in their community.
