Transport
Aarhus is approximately 300 km from Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, which is a 40-minute flight, a 3-hour drive or a 4-hour train journey away. Although there are few direct flights, it would be practical for participants to travel to one of the two nearest Airports - Billund (65 minutes by car to the city centre) or Aarhus (35 minutes).
Arrivals
- Arriving July 1st or before
- You are expected to find transportation to Aarhus on your own if you arrive on July 1st or before. Information about domestic transportation in Denmark can be found below.
- Arriving July 2nd or 3rd
- Copenhagen
- If you arrive at Copenhagen Airport, you are responsible for your own transportation to Aarhus. Danish volunteers can be found at the airport at certain times: they can help you buy tickets and find the train. If you arrive at a time when volunteers are not present, there are plenty of airport officials you can ask if necessary. From the Airport, you can find both direct trains and trains passing through Copenhagen Central Station. See below for more information.
- Billund and Aarhus
- If you arrive at Aarhus or Billund Airport, Danish volunteers will greet you and make sure you’re shuttled to your hotel. Look out for this sign:
Note that if you didn’t fill out your travel information in the registration, you cannot expect volunteers to be present. But we’ll help you get a seat by bus, car or public transport as fast as possible.
- If arriving at Aarhus Central Train Station, Danish volunteers will greet you and show you in the direction of your hotel.
- Arriving July 4th
- If you filled out your travel information in the registration, you’ll be picked up by a minibus or car that will bring you to your hotel.
- Arriving 5th or after
- Send an email to arrival@kfum-kfuk.dk and we’ll find a solution.
Problems and delays
In case of a strike by SAS Airlines, we will respond to the situation and send extra people for help. We have also booked the local YMCA Amager – just 15 minutes by metro from the airports in Copenhagen - which can be an extra place to stay overnight if necessary.

Important information about Copenhagen
Due to the Tour de France, parts of Copenhagen will be shut down on July 1st and 2nd, and you’ll only be able to travel by train or boat. Be aware that the traffic situation will be hectic and a bit chaotic on this day. Please stay updated if travelling from Copenhagen to Aarhus on the 1st and 2nd.

Trains are running to and from the airport.

The train station is located in Terminal 3.
Train tickets
Train and metro tickets can be purchased at the DSB ticket office in Terminal 3. You can also buy various types of tickets for the metropolitan area at the designated ticket machines.
Please note that you cannot buy tickets on the train and you risk being given a fine if you board without a valid ticket.

Parking in the city of Aarhus
In the city centre there are a number of parking garages and surface parking areas. All areas in the city centre are paid parking. For easy payment use the app Easypark.

If you want to park for free: Park outside the parking zones and walk or take public transportation to the venue. Don't leave valuables in your car when parked.

Electricity
These are the types of electrical plug that are used in Denmark – if you don’t use these, remember to bring an adaptor.
The Danish summer weather is known to be variable. You should prepare for both sunny days up to 30°C (86°F), and rainy days at 15°C (59°F). However, it will most likely be partly cloudy and around 20°C (68°F).
If you want a better idea of how the weather will be during the World Council, you can check the forecast here, a couple of days in advance.
Aarhus is by the sea and the locals jump in the water in all kinds of weather and at all temperatures. In July, the average sea temperature is 17.8°C (64°F).
